Americana Film Fest is not over, but now we know the winners of the official sections of the festival. This week we continue with the festival at Filmin, at the Filmoteca de Catalunya  with the Tim Sutton retrospective and next weekend (March 24-27) the Americana Film Fest arrives at the Cine Estudio del Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. The festival also continues through various locations with Route 66. You can check the schedules of the screenings on our website.

We leave you with the Palmares that this ninth edition leaves us:

Audience Award for Best Short Film

Like the Ones I Used to Know by Annie St-Pierre

Audience Awards for Best Feature Film

Mass by Fran Kranz

Audience Award for Best Documentary

Try Harder! by Debbie Lum

Best translation (Atrae)

Zola by Janicza Bravo

In order to select the winner, six parameters have been taken into account: orthotypography, technique, translation, tone, style and difficulty of the work. We rated all aspects from 1 to 5 for all movies and then debated to reach the final decision. The jury values very positively the quality of the translations and the excellent work that has been done in Zola.

Youth Jury Award (La Casa del Cine)

Sophie Jones by Jessie Barr

The Youth Jury made up of film criticism and theory students at LA CASA DEL CINE, wants to recognize and celebrate the diversity and originality of the proposals in this year’s NEXT section, mostly first feature films.

After discussing and sharing different points of view regarding the participating films, they decided to give the best film award to Sophie Jones, by Jessie Barr, a coming of age that translates into images the mourning of a teenager, full of contradictions in the midst of sexual discovery.

Sophie Jones breathes the Indie spirit of the American film fest. Its form and narrative consolidate the film as an airtight and coherent movie, as well as beautiful and emotional. And it makes it a more than remarkable first feature.

Critics Award (ACCEC)

Mass by Fran Kranz

The ACCEC jury, formed by Ylenia Cañadas, Júlia Gaitano and Jorge Oter, has unanimously decided that the winning film in the TOPS section is Mass, by Fran Kranz, a feature film that stands out for its focus on a sensitive and important theme in American society, through the formal precision and remarkable interpretations by the four protagonists.
